The Census Project The Jansari community is growing and changing all the time. In the past, there have been many efforts to document this primarily by publishing various address directories. However, here lay the inherent problem – the information would be out of date by the time it reached the printing press.
Conceived in September 2001, the census project aims to collate fundamental data on the Jansari community in London and is the main ongoing project for the technology team.
Apart from the obvious benefit of having an up to date record of the contact details of Jansaris in London, there are many other reasons for having the census database and its fruit should be of benefit to everyone. Hopefully we will gain a broader picture of exactly who our community comprises of what we need to do to cater for them.
In this information driven age that we are living in, 'knowledge management' has become a key to success. Some of the aspects of owning census database are:
- The centralised but dynamic storing of information of all our community members
- Contact details of all our members
- A demography of our community
- A guide on the achievements of our community
- A guide to the skills that lay within our community, both professional and other.
As of November 2002 we have had over 400 completed census forms which accounts for some 1100 individuals. We estimate this is around 60% of households in London. Some of you may remember some of these facts and figures we have already pulled out of the census database :
Occupations range from Art Editor, Dietician and Watchmaker to Youth Worker
Over 17% of the population are currently in education ranging from 2 to 47 years of age
Education topics range from GCSE’s and A Levels right through to Actuarial Science and Tai-chi
We have students at Ilford County High School, Kings College, London School of Economics, Cambridge, St. Andrews, City, and De Montford Universities
Please help us to help you and ensure that your household has completed a census form so that the whole community can benefit from this information. Be proud of who you are.
